About this Serving Leader Online Cohort:

Course Outline

This course has 10 sections. It starts with an orientation section. Then you will proceed to Section 2 where you will be introduced to The 5 Actions. In Section 3, you will spend some time in self reflection exploring your personal leadership journey before learning how to apply each of The 5 Actions in your daily work in Sections 4–8. The course concludes with a personal breakthrough exercise in Section 9, and a commencement in Section 10.

Your Course

Your Course sessions are designed to complement your individual online learning by creating a  learning environment where you can take control, connect and learn on your own time.

This course is designed for you to connect with other professionals in an active cohort environment guided by Dr. Sydney Barcus. You will work through online material and workbooks regarding Serving Leadership independently and then attend in-person enrichment sessions with your fellow Cohort members to explore this foundation for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Guest speakers bring deep expertise to some of these sessions, sharing the most current wisdom, insights and practices for addressing unconscious bias and psychological safety.

How to Approach Your Coursework

The online learning content is divided into 10 online sections, each taking about two hours to complete, including the workbook exercises and action planning. A best practice is to allocate 30 minutes each week to for learning, reflection, and connection with your cohort. You will gain the greatest value by putting thoughtful consideration into each of the workbook exercises – this is where theory is put into action – and giving yourself plenty of time to do the work in each section before moving on to the next.
